Remember the good ole days of Algebra 1 and 2? No doubt, you recall your 'arch enemy' the parabola and the infamous 'Vertex Form', shown below:

y = a * (x - h)2 + k

The key players in the equation are:

  • a, the 'shape factor' that influences concavity
  • (h, k): The location of the 'vertex' (high or low of the arch (aka, parabola)

The sliders in the control console allow you to see the effect of h, k, and a on the figure. xLeft and xRight influence how many steps the arch is drawn to the left and right of the vertex respectively.

The 'hue' slider lets you choose the 'fill' color of the arch.
