Down & Out!

Are you down and out?

We hope not but that's the name of a vintage dice game we discovered at Half Price Bookstore this summer.

It's been a great way to use the Dice that we developed in the Dice Saga.

How do you play?

The instructions from the back of the box are shown to the left. For clarification, after each dice roll, you select digit(s) in the table that add to equal the dice sum. (For your convenience, the sum of the selected digits is shown next to 'Current sum' under the table of digits as well as the currently-available digits in the table).

With each roll of two dice, you match their sum with combinations of digits you see in the checkboxes. Once a correct sum is found, the 'Roll' button is reactivated and play can continue. (Any valid combination allows you to continue rolling the dice).

Once a combo of digits is chosen and the dice is rolled again, the chosen digits are 'locked in' and cannot be used again or changed until the game restarts.

You seek the lowest score you can get. That score is the sum of the unselected digits once the game ends.

Of course, our app gives you guidance in the process with helpful hits and summary information. You are alerted if a sum cannot be found and the game ends. The 'Reset' button allows you to replay.

Our novice teams recently submitted their versions of the game before the release of this version. Those uploaded games should be available soon.

We are still tracking down a 'glitch' where occasionally, the dice shown are not the dice rolled. Look at the summary info to make sure the graphics match the actual dice values. Improvements in the next stage, hopefully!
