Demonstrating depth perception
effects with red and blue tints: Stage

Chromo-stereo-WHAT'S-THIS?!!

Random points via Cartesian coordinates

We can't even pronounce it let alone understand it?

Our best guess: the human eye has trouble focusing on wavelengths of red and blue at the same time and this malady makes images using those tints to appear '3D.'

Play with the art

When the app loads, 5,000 random points are generated using 'Cartesian coordinates' and constrained in the ring patterns shown.

Click the canvas, and the image becomes 'dynamic' and the 'Toggle C/P' button becomes active allowing you to toggle between 'Cartesian' and Polar random point generation.

As you can see in the demo pictures, 'polar' generation results in a higher density of points toward the center of the canvas.

Another click-of-the-canvas freezes the picture and disables the toggle button.

How's your vision?

Do you perceive the red and blue patterns as being on two different levels?

This app contains an 'Easter egg' that further illustrates this phenomenon. Can you find it?!

Our inspiration for this app came from an image we found online that we liked so much that we put it in our TNT Gallery. Find it there! Click on the image to learn more.
